Acupuncture and traditional treatments

Kin Child - AcupuncturistWhat is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one of many and varied therapies of Traditional Oriental Medicine. It involves the insertion of ‘hair fine needles’ into certain locations (referred to as points) to stimulate the body’s natural healing energy or ‘Qi’. Once viewed as mysterious and poorly understood in the western world, Acupuncture is fast becoming a recognized, safe and reliable method of treatment for many conditions. NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) recommends acupuncture for non specific lower back pain and consider it best practice for GP’s to offer a course of 10 sessions as first line treatment. As well, treatment for migraines, NICE guidelines state patients should consider a course of ’10 sessions of acupuncture over 5-8 weeks for prophylactic treatment of chronic tension type headache.’

What can acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture has a very wide application for acute and/or chronic long term illness, as well as ‘mystery type ‘ health issues which GP’s cannot diagnose. Additionally many patients come to acupuncture for preventative health. This provides a unique picture of your current health and informs Kim of what you want from acupuncture treatment. Additionally, Kim will complete a physical examination of joints or areas of pain discussed, pulse and tongue diagnosis. In most circumstances treatment takes place at the first consult, but this can vary depending upon the complexity of health issues.

How many treatments will I need?

The initial consultation is recommend with two treatments over a period of 3 consecutive weeks. This provides opportunity to feel the benefits of acupuncture treatment and allow Kim confirm your diagnosis and build a concrete treatment plan. At this point, duration of treatment will be discussed. There are no set number of treatments, each patient is unique and positive changes in ones health balance transform in different ways . Length of treatment is always reviewed with the patient during the course of treatment.

What is Cosmetic Acupuncture?

(also referred to as Facial Rejuvenation acupuncture)
Although a new type of treatment to the West, cosmetic acupuncture has been used in China for years to turn back the clock on signs of aging. Cosmetic acupuncture is a safe alternative to more invasive procedures such as fillers or surgery. The great thing is it’s natural, there is no down time, affordable in comparison to western procedures and it produces a natural looking result. It is a more subtle choice to surgery and fillers. You can expect to look radiant and feel more balanced.

What is Collagen Induction or Micro Needling?

This anti aging technique is also referred to as ‘skin needling’, ‘medical needling’, ‘derma rolling’ and ‘micro needling’. A small hand held roller consisting of 200 micro-needles is gently rolled over the face or an area of the body to create minute multiple punctures in the layers of the skin.

What is the science behind the treatment?

The technique causes ‘micro’ trauma to the skin which signals your body to perform it’s natural ability to heal. In basic terms this activity signals collagen and elastin production, therefore it regenerates the skin. As we age, collagen and elastin decrease and skin looses it’s natural firmness. Collagen Induction assists in restoring this process which enables skin to become smoother and firmer.

What is Japanese Tsuboki Facial Massage?

The treatment involves a series of massage techniques to relax neck, shoulder and facial muscles using certified organic White Lotus anti aging serum. Acupressure points on the channels of the face are gently pressed to restore energy. Let your mind drift away during the hour to music of your choice or silence. Along with the massage, various Traditional Chinese cosmetic techniques are used to create an uplifting effect to the face with Guasha and a Jade Roller.
