Winter Beauty

With the colder weather drawing in, it’s that time of year again to be thinking about how to try and avoid the inevitable winter skin blues.

Here are my Top Tops:

• If you use a cleansing wash or even cleansing wipes try and swap to a cleansing milk for the winter months to avoid stripping the skin.

• When possible, throughout the season use a moisturising face mask once or twice a week to top up the moisture levels in your skin.

• Keep your legs scale free and smooth throughout the harsh winter by using a good exfoliator on a weekly basis, and then apply a body moisturiser daily or even a body butter to nourish the driest of skins.

• Get glamorous this winter with this season’s nail colours like taupe, navy and even metallics, very chic on short nails.

• Keep yourself hydrated. Keep up your fluids and look after yourself from the inside.

• Start the day with a hot shower, but before you get out switch to cold water for about fifteen seconds. Then turn up the heat a little, and down again to repeat the process for about two minutes. I hear you say, why would I do a thing like that! This is a simple hydrotherapy technique which revitalizes the skin by stimulating the flow of blood through the body. It is both invigorating and highly beneficial to the skin. So even though you may not really enjoy the process, just think of the all the good it’s doing you!

• Use a facial moisturiser with an SPF as this will provide protection from all the elements.

• Drink a glass of hot water with lemon. This Chinese herbal remedy is a sure-fire method of energizing your body and will de-tox your entire system. This means that your body will be able to clean the blood faster to get rid of toxins responsible for bad skin.

• Simply sleep! Money cannot buy the benefits of a good night’s rest. Your oxygen levels will drop if you don’t get enough sleep, meaning that your cells will not be renewed as quickly. This is when degenerative skin aging sets in. Try to get seven, if not eight or nine hours of rest a night to achieve absolutely painless benefits. It’s ideal!

Christmas Members Event

Donnington Valley Health Club & Spa held a Christmas Members Evening in November welcoming all members, friend & relatives to the Spa.

A wonderful display of individual stalls were present with products such as GHD, ESPA, Jessica nails, designer hand bags, jewellery and traditional Christmas gifts. Everything you could have wished for to kick start your Christmas shopping.

All staff were on hand to provide advice on gifts displayed. The Spa was decorated beautifully for the festive season with the large Christmas tree taking centre stage. The ambiance at the Spa was truly magical. Hannah Henley, Spa Director said: “I am so pleased that so many members and friends were able to make it today, it has been very successful. We’ve had really great positive feedback from so many members and non-members who attended, and I’m looking forward to planning the next event.”

Spa Breaks

A Spa Break with just that little bit more time to focus on you!

Being a mum is rewarding but hard work. You feel as if there is never any time just for you. Even thirty minutes to sit quietly alone and read a magazine or relax in a bath, appears to be simply a dream. If at times, the thought of sitting on a busy train, have a coffee and read the paper would seem like a treat you need to read this.

Imagine escaping from home for twenty four hours, arriving at a 4-star country hotel. Awaiting, one of the top rated spas in the country, with luxurious facilities including an 18m swimming pool, sauna, steam and aromatherapy rooms.  Picture yourself in one of the the relaxation areas, choosing a treatment from a menu of therapies. Top it all up by attending two seminars during your stay, designed to spend time focusing on you and empowering you to leave with a renewed outlook and focus:

The ‘time out for me’ seminars

Who am I and where am I going?

  • Learn how to rediscover your personal values, your strengths and what your true passions are in life (other than your family of course!) and how these may have changed since having children
  • We will spend time helping you to think about your own personal vision for your life. Having a powerful vision can help you succeed far beyond where you’d be without one. That vision can propel you and inspire you going forward in your life.  If you don’t identify your vision, others will plan and direct your life for you so take some time out now so you are not one of those many people who too late in your life says, “If only… .”

My image

  • How we look has a huge impact on the way we feel about ourselves!  Find out why personal image is so important and discover which colours and styles suit you best, and why.
  • This session will help you re-evaluate your wardrobe, so that you can look great every day with minimal effort! A colour and image session where you will learn exactly what colours suit you best and why.

Not only will you be relaxing on a spa weekend, you will also be making the most of this precious time away and spending some constructive time being able to focus on YOU!  You will come away feeling refreshed, reinvigorated and re-motivated to return home and be the best Mum you can be.

If this sounds like a dream come true then take a look at this… that dream can be a reality, because we have designed this exact experience for you!http://www.donningtonvalley.co.uk/spa_breaks.asp

Pastels are in!

For many, makeup plays a very important role in their appearance. With so many products and types on the market it is difficult to get the right look. As this seasons trend is pastels getting the right colour for your skin tone is vital. Below are our top tips for getting this season’s look just right.

Tips for 2011

  • Using bright wholesome colours is great, as they can adapt to any outfit and any age.
  • Applying warmer colours to the eye can brighten up the complexion, creating a soft look perfect for the spring into summer season.
  • Blue, green, pink, orange, gold and red are the key colors this season. Why not try a couple and see which ones suit your skin tone best.
  • For a subtle look for the daytime, use a lighter colour eye shadow and combine this with a bronzer for the face and a clear lip-gloss to finish.
  • For a stronger more defined look, you could play around with eyeliners and bold colours such as hot pink, orange or red. Red lipstick has always been in fashion and if used well can be the perfect touch to your outfit for a sophisticated look.
  • Another important thing to remember with makeup is to make sure it is applied correctly. If you are not sure how to apply the latest trend pop down to Donnington Valley Hotel and Spa for a makeup to go session where you can get tips on application.http://www.donningtonvalley.co.uk/spa_essentials.asp

Nail colours to put a spring in your step

As spring has now started I thought I would give you some ideas of my favourite trends on nail polishes this season.

Spring 2011 is bringing a different type of look for spring; normally it brings a fresh look for nail colours, typically light and pastel tones.  For this year we are seeing rich peachy tones of pink, metallic greys, luxurious purples and bright blues.

Below are a few of the colours that I love and that we also available here at Donnington Valley Hotel & Spa.

  • Nudes –A nude tone elongates your hands and can goes with any style. The tip is to get a polish with a high-gloss formula or use a glossy top coat, so they don’t look fake.
  • Hint of Blue – For Spring go for a pale shade like a baby blue, it will match perfectly with jeans.
  • Peachy Pink – Going on holiday? This colour works brilliantly with a spring tan, so pop this one into your luggage!
  • Lavender – This colour will work perfectly with all skin tones. A great shade to wear all year round. In spring the lighter purple tones works best but perhaps use a darker shade on your toes.
  • Gun-Metal – Grey can be a tricky colour to wear, however with the metallic’s this season you can’t go wrong! The metallic’s this spring will give your nails a beautiful finish, ideal to wear for a night out.
  • Topcoat – Topcoats are a must! It gives your nails an extra edge, the look of luxurious nails that will shimmer in the sun- a must buy!
  • At Donnington Valley Spa we have a wide range of nail polishes available, so when you are next driving past do pop in and take or look, or even better treat yourself to a manicure or pedicure with our spa team.http://www.donningtonvalley.co.uk/spa_handsfeet.asp
