Delicate skins deserve the kindest, safest skin care. The products in the range are:

Dewdrops at Dawn (Body Lotion)

Bubbles in the Breeze ( Top to Toe Wash)

Soft as Moonlight (Nappy Change Cream)

Floating on Clouds (Bedtime Bath Milk)

Change Your Routine to Keep Seeing Results

You’ve set yourself a hard gym routine to help get you through the summer season, now it’s time to make a change to keep on seeing those results. Phoebe McCully, a Senior Fitness Instructor at our Health Club, gives us some top tips.

Matrix gym cardio suite at Donnington Valley

Sticking to the same routine can be very easy and comfortable, but at some point, your routine may not give you the results you want, so you need to shake things up. Changing your workout routine can be a motivator and may make things more interesting for you.

You work hard in the gym trying to find the routine that suits you. You start the routine and you notice that it is helping you make the changes that you want, so you stick with it. However, after a few months you may notice that the changes you liked to see have stopped appearing. The reason this happens is because repetition means the body can adapt. It will know what to expect and will then use less energy.

So here aresome signs that you can look for when deciding if you should change up your routine.

Do you get bored in the gym? Are you noticing fewer results? You find the workout less challenging? If you have answered yes to any of these questions then you need to mix things up!

Instead of just spending your amount of time on the treadmill, or cross trainer at a constant speed, I recommend our clients try our new ‘Sprint 8’ software. It is designed to help improve fitness levels, and burn away fat. It will be hard and will kick-start your body into making those changes again.

Mix up your strength routine by adding in a super set, to challenge your muscles even more. Finish the reps on the exercise that you are doing and then go straight into another one for the same muscle group. Super sets will help improve your endurance and build muscle.

If you make changes you will keep seeing results, and you will stay motivated. Try to make a change every four to six weeks. To help you make the right changes, why not book in for a review with the Fitness team? We would be only too happy to help and you never know how it will change the way you feel about your routine fore the better.

Wedding Tips at Donnington Valley

When planning for your wedding day, catering will be one of the biggest decisions you will make. The food is one of the main things your guests will remember from the day, what they had, was there enough, was there too little and how did the food reflect you as a couple? Here are our best tips.

tumblr_mrz89wWhzN1rb1u9do1_1280

When it comes to deciding on catering for your big day there are a number of choices: a traditional three course wedding breakfast; a relaxed summer barbecue or even a Champagne afternoon tea. Try and be different – and think about the best bits from previous weddings you would have attended. Make it more about you and your partner.

Upon arrival following your ceremony, guests might be a little peckish; the perfect little appetiser would be individually handmade canapés. Time of year is key as to what this might entail – hot, cold, heavy or fresh. You might want the freedom to choose, some venues are more flexible here than others.

Drinks are also a very important part of the day and not everyone wants to drink, though some do! A range of beverages for your reception depending on the time of year including a Summer Pimms or hot winter cider toddy will go down well and don’t have to break the bank.

The main meal, often called the wedding breakfast, can come in a variety of guises – and our Head Chef, Kelvin Johnson, is happy to design a menu for our guests’ wedding day. Kelvin’s menus are influenced by the seasons, using the freshest ingredients from our local suppliers. Importantly for many, wines to compliment your menu sounds like a minefield but needn’t – our award winning wine sommelier, Chris Neeves would assist on selecting exactly what went with your chosen dish. Whatever you choose though, again consider what you and your partner like.

It is also nice to cater for others for example the vegetarians and children who might need something different to the rest. At Donnington we create ‘Little Meals’ – mini fish & chip cones or mini burgers and chips . If you have a large number of evening guests attending or have a family with a large appetite, a finger buffet is perfect, and we are able to customise to suit any dietary requirements. If you fancy something simple; a bacon, egg or sausage roll will go down a treat too and once the party starts can often be the saving grace!

And throughout the evening, something fun will keep everyone entertained and energy levels high! How about going for your favourite retro sweets, a popcorn machine or even candy floss! A great Summer treat is a slush machine which you can make alcoholic, adults only or even an ice cream stand- everyone loves ice cream!

It can be overwhelming trying to accommodate all of your family and friends’ needs. But most importantly remember the day is your day, and if you choose to have it at Donnington, we are here to make your day as special and memorable for you as possible.

Uncomplicated British Beauty: delilah

Every woman wants to feel special every day with minimal make-up fuss. Last Monday, the delightful Rupert Kingston introduced delilah, his luxury beauty brand, to our product range.

Delilah Cosmetics
Uncomplicated British beauty from Delilah Cosmetics

Remember that understated glamour you feel every time you don a new colourful lipstick or every time you wear your favourite perfume? That’s how luxury and select make-up range delilah made us feel last night.

And as we learned, there’s no reason why we can’t feel that way all (or most!) of time with the right products. Borne of twenty years international experience in beauty buying and make-up artistry, delilah was carefully formulated in Italy from the finest ingredients. This capsule collection offers women a touch of understated luxury that they can enjoy everyday.

Importantly, delilah does not contain parabens, those modern-day nasties which recent research attests is no good for our skin at all. Instead, the products feel great, lightweight, and let your skin breathe.

Rupert offered a host of excellent tips and tricks as well, such as always to wear an SPF (I’m so guilty of forgetting but skin will be grateful in the long-run), that a brow pencil can so easily enhance your look, and that your choice of make-up brushes can dramatically enhance the application. Invest – or choose wisely initially – for long term gain.

Touching and feeling the products really brought this to life – the packaging is gorgeous and feels on a par with YSL or Chanel – very important in making a product feel extra special. With a host of pretty corals, daring poppies for the lips, warm browns, peacock greens and sultry purpose for the eyes, Rupert also aided our decision on choosing colours. Essentially, while the ‘barely-there’ is great, if you feel daring, don’t be afraid to wear colour!

The main takeaway was that make-up should be fun, easy, and make your skin look good (rather than being obvious). And delilah products very much did the job. I’m placing my order right now.

Beauty Tips for the End of Summer

This year, we have been graced with another one of those summers, where if you blinked, you may have missed it. Hopefully some of you are looking for those post-summer holiday tips, so here are a few that will certainly help.

Painted Nails – One of our Favorite Accessories
Witchy Wisteria, Dased Dahlia and Hotter than Hibiscus by Jessica Cosmetics are fantastic nail colours from this season to help you to keep the feeling of summer going for a little longer.

If you struggle to keep your nail varnish in one piece, geleration is a fantastic option. GELeration from Jessica is the next generation of soak-off gel nail systems. Created with the health of natural nails in mind, this evolution in technology protects nails, offering weak, bitten or problem nails the opportunity to grow. They make for perfect nails for 2-3 weeks with long-lasting high gloss shine, giving a durable yet flexible non-chip finish which is instantly dry. Relieving Your Muscles – the Right Way
Most of us got into the Olympic spirit in some way or another – some have tried a new sport, some have set new fitness goals and others have found that watching sport on TV is just as addictive and enjoyable. Therefore, take some time out and give your body some me time and pamper yourself with the Espa Fitness Bath Oil, a warming sore muscle bath oil to ease aches and pains. A powerfully soothing essential oil bath blend to ease tired muscles and aching joints before and after exercise. Restorative Indian Bay and clove bud oils deeply warm and relax the body to relieve muscles, aches and pains. Lavender helps ease the mind, while sweet almond oil deeply nourishes for softer, supple skin.

ESPA is a line of products ranging from mud therapy to skin moisturisers both available to purchase or in form of treatments at the spa. An unusual combination of aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, thalassotherapy and phytotherapy create a philosophy focused on enhancing an individual’s lifestyle in a way that is both holistic and versatile. Keeping Some Sun All Year Round
If you are feeling like the summer sun has not given you that glow you need, try topping up your tan with a self tan. If you are a confident home tanner, then a self tan milk or cream is perfect. Alternatively there are tanning sprays on the market which make the application a lot quicker and easier, if the colour is the concern and you do not want to go too dark, try a gradual tanning product. It allows you to top it up when you want. If attempting to tan yourself is still giving you doubt, then book a Spray Tan at our spa:http://www.donningtonvalley.co.uk/spa_selftan.asp.

Winter Beauty

With the colder weather drawing in, it’s that time of year again to be thinking about how to try and avoid the inevitable winter skin blues.

Here are my Top Tops:

• If you use a cleansing wash or even cleansing wipes try and swap to a cleansing milk for the winter months to avoid stripping the skin.

• When possible, throughout the season use a moisturising face mask once or twice a week to top up the moisture levels in your skin.

• Keep your legs scale free and smooth throughout the harsh winter by using a good exfoliator on a weekly basis, and then apply a body moisturiser daily or even a body butter to nourish the driest of skins.

• Get glamorous this winter with this season’s nail colours like taupe, navy and even metallics, very chic on short nails.

• Keep yourself hydrated. Keep up your fluids and look after yourself from the inside.

• Start the day with a hot shower, but before you get out switch to cold water for about fifteen seconds. Then turn up the heat a little, and down again to repeat the process for about two minutes. I hear you say, why would I do a thing like that! This is a simple hydrotherapy technique which revitalizes the skin by stimulating the flow of blood through the body. It is both invigorating and highly beneficial to the skin. So even though you may not really enjoy the process, just think of the all the good it’s doing you!

• Use a facial moisturiser with an SPF as this will provide protection from all the elements.

• Drink a glass of hot water with lemon. This Chinese herbal remedy is a sure-fire method of energizing your body and will de-tox your entire system. This means that your body will be able to clean the blood faster to get rid of toxins responsible for bad skin.

• Simply sleep! Money cannot buy the benefits of a good night’s rest. Your oxygen levels will drop if you don’t get enough sleep, meaning that your cells will not be renewed as quickly. This is when degenerative skin aging sets in. Try to get seven, if not eight or nine hours of rest a night to achieve absolutely painless benefits. It’s ideal!

Alternatively pop down to the Spa for a treatment and a bit of pampering! See our website for all the treatments available:http://www.donningtonvalley.co.uk/spa_signature.asp
