Meet the Author - Jay Rayner
8th May 2008
Jay Rayner is an award-winning journalist, writer and broadcaster. He has written for most of the broadsheet nationals as well as a wide variety of magazines. He has published four novels, and won a Sony Radio Award for presenting Papertalk on BBC Radio 5 Live. He is currently a restaurant critic and feature writer for the Observer. He was named Critic of the Year at the 2006 British Press Awards, and Restaurant Critic of the Year in the 2001 Glenfiddich Food and Drink Awards. His new TV series, Eating with the Enemy, begins on BBC2 in May 2008 and he is a judge on Masterchef also on BBC2. Jay is also the Chair of the UK and Ireland region for the World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards to be announced on April 21st.
The Man Who Ate The World is a journey through the great cities of the world. It’s about extraordinary restaurants and the people who visit them. It’s about the globalisation of high culture, the market in taste and the money spent on it. And, of course, it’s about dinner.
Part character-driven travelogue, part food critique, always sharp and often funny, this book is the result of Jay’s lifelong campaign to find the perfect meal. Just don’t read it if you’re hungry.
The evening includes a Champagne reception, 3-course dinner during which Jay will talk about The Man Who Ate the World and a hardback copy of the book to take away. You will also have the chance to ask questions. Places cost just £49 per person including a copy of the book.
